WILLIAM CREAN
BA BCL LLM (EU LAW)
REGISTERED TRADE MARK AGENT · IPOI (2006)
SOLICITOR · LAW SOCIETY OF IRELAND (1999)
SOLICITOR · SRA ENGLAND & WALES (2010)
ATTORNEY · STATE BAR OF CALIFORNIA (2022)
I have been filing trade marks since 2006. Over the course of my Dublin practice — William Crean & Co., which I ran for nearly nine years — I filed and managed 90+ trade mark matters before the Irish Patents Office and the EUIPO, advising clients across technology, healthcare, food and beverage, and media on registration strategy, oppositions, licences and co-existence agreements.
I set up trademark.irish to make qualified trade mark representation straightforward and accessible. There are no junior staff, no referrals to a separate agent, and no open-ended billing. A fixed fee is agreed before any work begins. You know what you are paying, and you deal with a qualified Trade Mark Agent throughout.
As a practising solicitor — admitted in Ireland, England & Wales, and California — I can also advise on enforcement, licensing, and international matters where trade mark protection intersects with broader commercial law. That is unusual in a single practitioner. Most trade mark agents are not solicitors.
Filing activity was at its peak between 2010 and 2012, with 16 EU trade mark filings in 2012 alone. Clients spanned technology, healthcare, food & beverage, and media sectors. Work included registration strategy, opposition proceedings, licence negotiation and co-existence agreements before both IPOI and EUIPO.

"Trade mark registration is not complicated — but it has to be done correctly. Class selection, specification drafting, and clearance searching all matter. Getting them wrong is expensive to fix, and sometimes impossible."
